Say Hi To Our Board

Argo was born 26 years ago from the vision of local parents of children with disabilities.

We are thrilled that the parents of the residents also act as Trustees on Argo's board.

Chris Fry

My name is Chris Fry.  I’m a retired Engineer, married to Averil.  We have 3 adult children – Martin, Sonja and Lara.  Martin is a resident of Argo House, and I am on the Board of Trustees for the Argo Trust.

Martin has lived at Argo House for nearly 20 years, since he was 24.  We have been involved since then, and Averil is the Board Secretary.
Each Trustee/Parent shares their skills to ensure the smooth running of the Trust, and my contribution is largely concerning maintenance of the House, the vehicles, and helping out with odd jobs, Mr Fix it type things!

Argo House is unique in that it offers residents the opportunity to be part of the community, and have life experiences with encouragement and support from the marvellous Argo staff.  Our extended family are all so appreciative of the efforts made to ensure Marty and his flatmates are happy and well cared for.

Suzy O'Brien

We are Dennis and Suzy O'Brien, parents of Sophie who arrived at Argo in her early twenties.

Initially we were very reluctant to have her living away from home, but the amazing energy, love and kindness shown by our Argo staff has meant that her life here is worlds away from what we, as ageing parents, could ever have imagined or offered.

Even with her limited abilities, Sophie lives a wonderfully full, happy and interesting life at Argo which is everything we could hope for.

Julian Howard

I have been involved as the Argo Treasurer for more than 10 years.  As a retired person this has been a wonderful opportunity for me to keep up to date with the latest cloud technology and the new accounting methods for the auditing and presentation of annual financial statements.

I'm so proud to be associated with Argo with its reputation for quality care and with the Board in the way it manages its new governance.
The highlight of my week is coming to Argo on Thursdays to take my daughter to Church and to do some shopping after.  I love and appreciate how beautiful Aiden looks for the outing, and really enjoy all the lovely compliments on how my daughter looks.

Aiden's Mum, Colleen, works with Dayna and the staff to manage Aiden's health and together they make such a fine team. Given Aiden's struggles and challenges I marvel each time I see her on how well she looks.

Ngaire Foote

My name is Ngaire.  My son Hayden came to live with the Argo whānau at age 20.

Hayden has a younger brother and sister, both of which love Argo and the quality of life Hayden has living there.

The staff are amazing dedicated professionals who make Hayden's life exciting and challenging and welcome us as part of the whānau.  Argo is a home away from home.

My relationship with Argo has been one of many challenges during our search for the ideal home that would be a flatting environment for our daughter Stephanie.

My husband John and I became involved with the Trust when a group of parents got together to discuss our children's' future.

Our dream was to find or build a home that would accommodate our children's needs 24/7.
After many years of searching, we found a section in Aro Valley that was used as the Aro community gardens. Argo Trust is the most invigorating, caring and communicative home we could ever wish for. It ticks all the boxes for us and our daughter is so happy.

Management and Support Staff are truly dedicated to the every day running of the home.

Claire Stewart

I am Claire Stewart - mother of Glenn. My background is in finance administration.

Glenn arrived at Argo in September 1995, after 20 years at Kimberley Hospital in Levin. I became involved with Argo right back at it's inception (around 1991) with three other families.

Glenn has blossomed in this environment where he is able to participate in an enormous variety of activities including being a foundation customer of The Garage Project in Aro Street - a craft beer establishment.

Robyn Watling - Patron

Picture
Married for nearly 40 years, parents of Claire and Christina and the late Scott and very proud grandparents.

Robyn is a Justice of the Peace, former owner of a local veterinary hospital and medical supplies company and now a semi-retired business consultant.

Alec is retired but previously was self-employed and on the security team at Parliament.

Both were heavily involved in the initial set up of Argo some 25 years ago and Robyn has had various roles on the Board - Secretary, Treasurer and Chairperson - over that time. Son Scott had a wonderful ten years living the dream at Argo, wonderfully supported by fabulous staff.

Scott was one of the first profoundly disabled people to go through the school system in Wellington. Quite a feat at the time.

"Now we both are very proud to see Scott's friends - the current residents - enjoying the initial hard work and Argo being recognised as a leader in its field. Part of our hearts will live at Argo forever. "
